Irma has been with Fox Valley Literacy for almost two years. From the beginning, her goal was to improve her English and to be comfortable enough with the language to do the Citizenship test. We are proud to announce that she is now a U.S citizen! “Passing the Citizenship test was my biggest goal since I immigrated from Cuba,” she shared with us. Irma believes that her tutor, Connie, was a fundamental part of this success. “Without the help of Fox Valley Literacy and my tutor, this wouldn’t be possible.” Irma was also constantly listening to English videos at work, reading books that her tutor gave her, but more importantly, she says, she never lost faith in God.
Irma doesn’t want to stop here. She wants to keep improving her pronunciation and expanding her vocabulary. She believes that going to Fox Valley Literacy has helped her to be more engaged with the community. “Now I can understand better when I go to a doctor’s appointment, to the bank, and I have more vocabulary to communicate.” Irma loves going to church, and she has created a small family that has been very supportive throughout the seven years that she has been in Wisconsin.
