About Us
Our Mission
Fox Valley Literacy partners with adults to expand opportunity, strengthen communities and create a more inclusive Fox Valley by building literacy, language, and essential life skills.
Our Vision
A Fox Valley where literacy unlocks opportunity, connection, and full participation for every person.
Our History
Fox Valley Literacy was founded in Appleton, Wisconsin in September 1990, during International Literacy Month. The Outagamie Waupaca Library System, which supports public libraries in the area, along with the Appleton Public Library led the formation of the organization to bring together existing programs as the Fox Valley Literacy Coalition. In the 36 years since our founding, we’ve undergone two name changes and moved offices several times. Our dedication to providing quality and accessible adult education hasn’t changed. Since 1990, we've served students at no cost, all with the help of our dedicated tutors. We continue to work hard every day to serve our community and to share the power of learning.
Our Values
Inclusive Communities
We believe communities are stronger when people can fully participate. We design programs that respond to real-world needs in education, work, health, and civic life, resulting in tangible improvements for students, families, employers, and community partners.
Belonging & Voice
We believe students learn best when they are valued as whole people. We actively seek and incorporate student input in program design and instruction, resulting in stronger engagement, higher attendance, and sustained participation.
Access & Growth
We believe all adults can grow and achieve their goals when barriers are removed. We provide flexible, student-centered programs tailored to each starting point, leading to measurable skill gains, persistence, and goal completion.
