Our annual fundraiser, Faces of Literacy, brings together all of our volunteers, students, board members, community partners, and members to celebrate our students’ accomplishments and learn how we are empowering individuals to make a difference in our community.

See what we’ve done in the past years, and we hope to see you next time!

Each year, our students and tutors write short stories about memories, hopes, dreams, triumphs, and losses – stories that bring them joy, help them feel connected, and remind them of home.  Community artists create photos, drawings, paintings, or songs that retell their stories through the artist’s lens.  In the process, we build relationships across the community and uplift self-expression and the arts.  By purchasing our Faces of Literacy books, you will enjoy moving stories, family photos, and artwork and support the work of Fox Valley Literacy to transform lives and enrich the community.

Faces of Literacy 2023

- Unlocking our Power and Potential -

Right before the pandemic began, we re-envisioned our largest fundraiser to empower and celebrate our incredible students and volunteers, build relationships across often disconnected parts of the community, tell meaningful stories, uplift the arts, and bring our mission and vision to life through shared fun.  This year, we’ve finally seen that vision come fully to life.

We’re still learning and growing, but it’s so rewarding to see our fundraiser embody our mission and values, share the importance of our work through story without exploiting our clients (or at least minimize exploitation as much as possible), offer a joyful and accessible experience for folks across the socio-economic spectrum, and raise record funds for our organization

Faces of Literacy 2022

- Sharing our Traditions & Spreading our Joy-

After two consecutive years of doing an online event, we had the opportunity to host Faces of Literacy with an in-person audience. Twenty-five students and tutors shared cherished traditions, where we had an art gallery with community artists that created visual art retelling their stories through the artists’ lens. We also launched a new activity, Literacy Quest: A multi-station activity that helped guests learn about our students’ paths to success in our community. There were 5 stations total: Heart, Home, Vocation, Belonging, and Courage. Take a look at the pictures!

Thank you to our 2022 sponsors:

- Sharing our Dreams & Passions -

We had to make the difficult decision to move it to an online event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the stressful decision, we collaborated with students and tutors to produce beautiful videos that showcased their dreams and passions. Watch them below!
